This small piece was probably part of a spur attached to a rider’s shoe to discipline the horse. Another theory is that it was part of the decorative fitting of a knife sheath. In either case, the item may be a walking horse with a halo or wreath on its head; it may as well be a bovine animal. The item has a deep symbolic meaning aligned with Slavic religious beliefs. Due to their high ornamental value and fine nature, decorative objects with zoomorphic motifs are linked to the West Slavic elite of the early Piast state. It is therefore not surprising that the item has been found on the premises of a knights’ manor. It served as a watchtower at the crossing of the Opatówka River, along a trade route leading from the Vistula Valley.
