We use all kinds of technology in our day-to-day work. Like this quick in-the-archives-phone scan. Quick and easy, just about everyone with a phone and a free app can do it, and it keeps on getting easier. Give it a go if you haven’t already!
But not every scan gives the detail we need. Explore the hotspots and use the model inspector to learn more about the object, and the technique.
This small, fist-sized brown lump is a fragment of carved wood excavated from the Tune Viking ship burial mound over 100 years ago. The object is over 1000 years old and depicts a complex mass of knotted ropes binding little figures captive.
